“Los Teros” gated neighborhood
Guaymallén, Mendoza. Argentina, 2009

Gated neighborhood with a highly efficient irrigation method, containing gardens with native plants and non-native plants adapted to arid zones (xerophiles). The trees bordering the streets initially received drip irrigation, and now they sustain themselves on rain water. Their fine texture (very small leaves) helps avoid the generation of an isle of heat beneath the canopy, allowing for a proper exchange of hot daily air and fresh nightly air (typical of desert areas).
